The 2021 Herczeg’s Zoom lecture series: To grow old wisely: Tools and inspiration to promote wellness in old age
A lecture series on topics in the areas of psychology, culture, and humanities Moderator: Prof. Silvia Koton (Head of the Herczeg Institute).
The first 2021 Herczeg’s Zoom lecture series “To grow old wisely: Tools and inspiration to promote wellness in old age” was launched on March 8, 2021. The series was designed for older adults and professionals who interact with old populations, and aimed to promoting wellness in old ages during the COVID-19 pandemic.

New perspectives on lifespan inequality: Webinar and open discussion
On January 21, 2021, the Herczeg Institute on Aging at Tel Aviv University, in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Centre on Population Dynamics (University of Southern Denmark), and the Leverhulme Center for Demographic Science (Oxford University) hosted a webinar entitled: New perspectives on lifespan inequality.

The Herczeg Institute’s Award for PhD students
On November 22, 2020, the Herczeg Institute on Aging presented six awardees of the annual award for PhD students conducting research on age and ageing at Tel Aviv University: three awardees for year 2019 and three for year 2020. The awardees presented their research online in light of the restrictions in effect due to the COVID 19 pandemic.
2018-2019
A meeting with Dr. Francine Mayran, psychiatrist and artist - On May 2, 2019, The Herczeg Institute on Aging at Tel Aviv University hosted Dr. Francine Mayran, a psychiatrist and painter from Strasbourg, France. Dr. Mayran dedicates most of her artwork to advance the remembrance of the Holocaust as well as other genocides.

LGBT Older Adults Conference at Herczeg Institute - On February 21, 2019, the Herczeg Institute on Aging hosted a conference for researchers and professionals who interact with LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) older adults. The conference was organized in collaboration with The Aguda –The Association for LGBTQ Equality in Israel; JDC-Eshel (Israel); Hoshen - the public education and awareness-raising arm of the LGBT community in Israel, and the Social Services Department at Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality and the Tel Aviv Municipal LGBT Community Center. Meeting on the Expansion of the Staff in the Herczeg Institute on Aging – On October 7, 2018, a meeting was held to mark the expansion of the staff in the Herczeg Institute on Aging. The title of the meeting was: “Paradoxes of Old Age: Wilting versus Growth.” The meeting was intended to highlight the addition of researchers from Tel Aviv University to the Herczeg Institute’s staff in three categories: members of the Institute’s own staff, members of the Scientific Committee, and members of the Institute’s forum of affiliates. 2017-2018
Scholarships for excelling doctoral students – The Herczeg Institute held its annual scholarship award ceremony on June 10, 2018. This year, three scholarships were awarded by Prof. Dov Shmotkin, Head of Herczeg Institute, to excelling doctoral students at Tel Aviv University, who conducted research on an aging-related topics. Bittersweet sentiments: Literature about old age: A Book Launch event – On March 19, 2018, the Herczeg Institute held a conference honoring the release of two books in Hebrew: Preying on the Fleeting Abundance (editors: Miri Varon and Amir Cohen-Shalev), and To my Mother (author: Nitza Eyal). Between contentment and trauma: A pendulum in the meaning of life – A conference marking Professor Dov Shmotkin's retirement from the School of Psychological Sciences at Tel Aviv University took place on January 29, 2018. This event was organized by Prof. Shmotkin's former doctoral students – now scholars in the academia themselves – who study different aspects of mental and physical well-being in the face of adversities along adulthood and old age. The Herczeg Institute’s annual scholarship award ceremony – The Herczeg Institute’s scholarship award ceremony took place on July 3, 2017. Two scholarships were awarded by Prof. Dov Shmotkin, Head of Herczeg Institute, to excelling doctoral students at Tel Aviv University, who conducted research on aging-related topics. Aging in a hostile world: Resilience or vulnerability? – On July 3, 2017, The Herczeg Institute hosted a conference about the quest for positive quality of life under the adversities of old age. This conference was based on an ongoing study at Herczeg Institute, funded by Israeli Ministry of Science. The conference included lectures about four groups of older people in Israel, which represent four disadvantaged populations in current Israeli society. Bi-national workshop in collaboration with members from Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf – On March 19-20, 2017, the Herczeg Institute on Aging hosted a bi-national workshop in collaboration with members from Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. This workshop, entitled Aging Well, brought together experts from diverse fields to discuss concepts of aging and old age from multidisciplinary angles. Thoughts and lessons about Alzheimer's disease in general and from an old age perspective: A conference designed for researchers in the fields of aging and old age – This event took place on 7 June, 2016, at Tel Aviv University. The conference was organized by the Herczeg Institute, and was attended by researchers from diverse areas of aging and old age with the purpose of creating a unified and connected professional community. The participants consisted of researchers from Tel Aviv University and other academic institutes in Israel, as well as professionals who interact with the aging population. Collaborative Workshop on cultural aging with Heinrich-Heine University of Düsseldorf - Members of the Herczeg Institute and other researchers on aging and old-age attended a joint workshop held on June 27-29, 2016 at Düsseldorf, Germany. This delegation discussed concepts of aging and old age from a multidisciplinary point of view – with the aim of formulating an innovative and integrated vision on these issues. Volunteering and generation of meaning in the third age: A collaborative event with Shalem Movement - This conference took place on 3 April, 2016, at Tel Aviv University, and was organized as collaboration between the Herczeg Institute on Aging, Shalem Movement for the national service of adult volunteering and The Israel Psychological Association. The conference's purpose was to support and acknowledge senior volunteers, as well as volunteer work supporting old persons. Professor Carol D. Ryff’s visit in Israel 3-4 February 2016. Carol D. Ryff is Professor of Psychology, Director of the Institute on Aging at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Director of the US national MIDUS (Mid Life in the United States) study on aging. On February 3, Professor Ryff was the guest of the Herczeg Institute for a workshop entitled, "Challenges and directions in research on aging.” The workshop’s purpose was to share Professor Ryff’s knowledge with Israeli scholars from different aging-related fields. The gerontologists' lecture series is a continuing education program, designed for professionals who interact with the aged population. Its purpose is to provide the participants with new and updated gerontological knowledge, while relating it to the everyday professional environment. Each lecture series includes four double meetings (eight lectures), given by experts from the academy or from the professional field in related disciplines such as psychology, sociology, medicine, nursing, or social work. Every year, a main topic is chosen from a multidisciplinary perspective. This year the chosen theme was The intergenerational relations in aging families and elder care practices. Creativity and mental health in old age: Demonstration of expressive therapy workshop – 25.6.15 - The workshop was organized by Herczeg Institute on Aging and was arranged and guided by Dr. Ronen Berger. Dr. Berger is the founder and Head of the Nature Therapy Center in Israel, lecturer at the School of social work at Tel Aviv University and at Tel-Hai Academic College, and a drama therapist. Internet and old age conference: Academic investigations and practical tools— 11.6.15 - The conference took place at Tel Aviv University and was organized as a collaboration between the Herczeg Institute on Aging and the Orange Institute for Internet Studies at Tel Aviv University. It was a combination of academic lectures on internet and old age and a presentation of useful websites for older persons. CALAS: Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Aging Study Study Day - On the 25th anniversary of the CALAS (Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Aging Study) in Israel, the Herczeg Institute on Aging organized and hosted a study day titled conclusions, lessons and benefits from longitudinal studies on aging in Israel, on May 17, 2015. Doctoral Student Forum and Scholarship Award Ceremony The Herczeg Institute on Aging - The Herczeg Institute on Aging organized and hosted a doctoral student forum and a scholarship awardceremony for PhD Students from Tel Aviv University who conducted aging-related studies in various areas. The event was held in 23rd March 2015 and was guided by Professor Hava Golander, who coordinates the Doctoral Forum at the Herczeg Institute. Gerontology researchers conference - The conference was organized by the Herczeg Institute, and was attended by senior and experienced gerontology researches in various areas. The conference included two lectures; in the first one, Dr. Aviad Tur-Sinai spoke about structural and functional aspects of the elderly's social network, and its effect on financial decision-making. In the second one, Dr. Elinoar Pardess spoke about the relation between compassion- fatigue and attachment orientations among elderly's caregivers.
Gerontology PhD Students conference - The conference was organized by the Herczeg Institute, and was attended by PhD Students who conduct gerontological-related studies in various areas. The conference included a lecture by Prof. Yaniv Assaf, head of the Neurobiology department in the Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University, who spoke about innovations in aging brain research, and emphasized the significance of brain plasticity process, in detecting and possibly preventing diseases.
